This past Sunday I took advantage of the Free Fishing Weekend in Michigan and decided to try fishing some new water. It was later in the day than I had hoped when I left home that afternoon, so I had limited time. With all the rain, I wasn’t sure where to go due to most of the rivers being very high and dirty.
I took the short drive north to the Huron river. Anyone familiar with this area knows that the crew from Schultz Outfitters is consistently catching some nice fish out of these waters. I had to try it.
The Huron was very clear and looks to be an amazing fishery. I spent quite a bit of my day just looking around and exploring areas. It rained most of the afternoon so my actual fishing was somewhat limited. I managed to see quite a few fish but only caught a little Smallmouth and a Rock Bass.
I am already looking forward to exploring these waters more and finding some of the big bass that live there.
P.S. – I will trade flies for float trips or a raft so I can float this river!!!!
